EXPERIENCE: Experienced: Build Complex Kits w/o Assistance; "Free Build" w/o Instructions

PRE-REQUISITE: None

DURATION: 5 sessions, 1½ hours each session

SYNOPSIS: Build various parts of a typical (Friends) neighborhood - ice cream shop, veterinarian, house, school, park – using specialized elements and all the great colors of LEGO^® Friends (pink, purple, tan, light blue, white) plus all the traditional colors and elements, too!

OBJECTIVE: Learn planning, design, technique, detailing, and functionality to enhance building skills and educate students on construction basics.

APPROACH: With thousands of specialty pieces and through the construction of various components of familiar places and objects, students learn construction fundamentals, basic principles of planning, advanced LEGO^® techniques, and fine detailing.

SKILLS ACQUIRED / EDUCATIONAL BENEFIT:
1. Science: Spatial Relations: identify, rotate, and assemble objects in space and understand their relationships to other objects
2. Technology: Fine Motor Skills: ability to grasp and assemble small parts in a precise manner to allow for smooth and steady motion
3. Engineering: ability to plan and build structure and objects in modular phases and then assemble a finished product
4. Math: proper nomenclature and ratios of elements ("2x4 brick", "1x12 plate", "2x2 tile", "3x2 33° slope", "1x4x3 frame, etc.)
LEGO^® TECHNIQUE: Studs Not on TOP (SNoT) construction, Technic integration, hinges and turntables, brackets, fine detailing with smaller elements, modular construction, multi-tiered structures
Creativity: turn thoughts and ideas – physical or abstract – into tangible objects with imagination and the tools to add all the details
